About Juneteenth

• Juneteenth was born when on June 19, 1865, the announcement of the abolition of slavery in Texas was finally given; more than 2 and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth is now a recognized US and Utah State holiday that commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans.
• Salt Lake Juneteenth and Utah County Juneteenth are FREE community events – celebrations of resilience and joy! These family friendly, community celebrations are open to the public. The Salt Lake event will be held in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City at the Gateway Mall and the Utah County event will be held in Provo at Automotive Addiction Museum.
• These celebrations will feature a Black Owned Business Expo as vendors for the events, art exhibits, food trucks, music, entertainment, kids’ corners, storytelling, roller skating, movie nights, and much more!
• Coming out of the Pandemic, where Black owned businesses were disproportionately negatively impacted, these community centered events will allow these businesses the opportunity to showcase their goods and services, receive networking opportunities, and receive access to resources.
